Our Story

Once the city morgue, The Rabbit Hole has certainly maintained its haunting roots over the years.

Tales of spirits and unexplainable occurrences still echo through the underground — but it’s not just ghosts haunting the halls of “the Hole.” It’s the proud history that resonates loudest of all.

Step into the sleek, subterranean space, and you won’t be greeted by strict dress codes or other five-star stereotypes. You won’t have a hard time following or pronouncing our menu items, and you may be relieved to hear that your server won’t be doubling as table-side “entertainment.”

But you will be greeted by upscale servers who are as much fellow community members as they are staff members. You will experience a haunting ambiance ornamented by the gothic charm of local artists Phil Lear and Douglas Rouse. You will discover delectable New American bites and cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else, and above all else, you’ll experience an environment that is less about us and more about you.

Come drink in the gothic atmosphere and let us whisk you away into an enchanted evening escape, and remember, we're all mad here.

The Rabbit Hole began in the mind and heart of Joe Campana in 2011, inhabiting the very same sleek, underground space that was once the Metropolitan.

When Joe realized his vision for eclectic New American cuisine, The Rabbit Hole was quick to follow — and it was anything but conventional.

Since then, Joe has opened several other successful sister restaurants, including SuperNova, Nova West, Bonny & Read (one of the few places you can find fresh seafood in the Springs), Cork & Cask (a Victorian-style wine and whiskey bar), Shame & Regret (an edgy back-alley bar), STIR Coffee & Cocktails (a neighborhood bar in the Old North End), STIR Downtown
